Sioux Falls

With great anticipation the Blaze headed off to Sioux Falls expecting some great softball and good times.
I believe most or all of the girls had the good times but the great softball was forgotten. With high expectations going into the first game the girls put 6 runs up on the board in the first inning. Unfortunately they only got 5 more for the rest of the game. Normally that is plenty for a Blaze victory but our defense faultered and we lost by a run.
This left everyone with a lot of free time the rest of Saturday. The girls enjoyed shopping, swimming and a teen age favorite sun bathing.
This left us with a must win game on Sunday morning. With all the free time the girls were a little flat. Not producing many runs. Fortunately there were a couple less errors but not enough for a win. So after 2 games the Blaze were on their way home.
Two more chances for a Tournament win coming up. We will be ready to have a great showing.
Congrats to the 12U and the 18U on their South Dakota Championships!

Richfield 6-13 & 6-14

After a 4-0 week the Blaze were ready for a good showing at the annual Richfield tournament.
One of the better weekends of the summer for some ball the Blaze started out with a little shaky defense. Giving up 4 runs to the Bloomington Warriors in the first inning. But thats when the blaze hit their stride. The Warriors never crossed home plate again. With the Blaze ending the game in 4 innings. Being a little different that was the only game on Saturday.
Sunday morning the Blaze first game was against Glen Lake. Keeping up with the Stellar defense the girls played strong and shut out Glen Lake. The next game was against the Bloomington Bulletts. Knowing the Bullets are strong after playing them Wednesday night the Blaze brought their A game and held the Bullets to 1 run. Giving up only 5 total runs in 3 games during pool play and giving them the number one seed going into bracket play.
The first game of bracket play the Blaze took on a strong Richfield team. Falling behind early the Blaze came back and won the game by 3. Sending them to the Championship Game against Elm Creek.
Elm Creek took an early lead with the Blaze coming back to take the lead. Not to be outdone Elm Creek Scored 3 in the bottom of the 6th to tie the game. The Blaze bats went dead and were held scoreless in the top of the 7th. Elm Creek proved to be to much loading the bases and coming up with a big hit to win the Championship.
The girls played some strong defense and had a great tournament. See all of you in South Dakota in a couple weeks.

A weekend for the books...

Starting off the day with temps in the 50's and winds gusting. It was another cold day in Champlin. Seems to be a theme with tournaments held here. Starting the day off with cool bats and a hot defense the blaze were off and running. Winning the first game 13 - 2.
Now off to the record books we go. Starting the second game with 23 runs in the first inning. Being lead by not one but two blasts by Tori Dixon hitting her first and second homeruns in one inning. Loosing a couple balls the the softball fields neighbor. With the home runs Tori was not the only girl hitting the blaze put up 38 runs in 2 at bats and winning 38 - 1.
Game 3 kept the bats hot. Leaving to base unturned the girls came up with another 26 runs and winning the game 26 - 11. Go home and get some sleep girls all of you 9th graders had one long day after that school lock in.
Sunday starts with a sleepy team and some sleepy bats. Up next is Elm Creek always a tough  compititor adn a fun game.  After 4 innings the blaze are down by one run with a score of  7 - 8. Then the fatigue sets in and the errors start happening and a disappointing loss with a score of 16 - 26.
The second game on Sunday came with a price. with the blaze leading 12 - 5 the unthinkable happened. With one bad hop we lost roades for the day, so we thought,  with a broken nose. By the way Roades nose, in Roades fashion got the ball to second base for the 3rd out of the inning. Being down to 9 players the blaze buckled down not giving up another run and winning the game 20 - 5. Ending pool play with a 4 - 1 and a 3 seed.
Our first game in Bracket play is Elm Creek and to the Blaze suprise Roades is back in the line up. Broken nose and all. PS Thanks to Elm Creek in the use of your mask to help our player stay safe. That is appreciated by us more than you may know.  Now on to the game.
The blaze were held scoreless in the first and gave up one run. In the second inning the blaze again gave up one run but scoring 5 of there own they hold a slight lead  Both teams were held scoreless in the 3rd. In the 4th inning the Blaze gave up 3 runs leaving the scre tied in the 5th inning.  in the 6th the Blaze came up with 3 runs of their own. With 3 outs in the top of the 7th inning the Blaze went on to win by the score of 8 - 5.
Onto the championship game.
After watching Voss run through pool play the Blaze new they had to come up with a great defensive game to come up with a win.  The Blaze did deliver a great defensive game but came up a few hits short of a championship.  Loosing 7 - 2.

We would also like to congratulate the Lil' Blaze on their 12U championship, the B-Lazers and their 12U Runner up, along with 14U runner up finish.

With 4 Blaze teams in the tournament and 4 teams coming home with hardware thisweekend. I feel we have a GREAT start to the summer for BAC traveling slowpitch softball.

Champlain Part 2

With the sun shining and the light breeze it was a perfect morning for some softball. The Blaze started off with a bang.  Scoring 7 in the firts inning. Followed by some stellar defense, it was nice to see some defensive plays. The Blaze continued to bring the bats led by the line shots of Roades this was her game. The Blaze went on t win in 4 innings.
Game 2 of Sunday turned into a barn burner. Goram Builders took the early lead scoring 4 in the first. The Blaze came back with 3 of their own. This was turning into a defensive gem with either team having the possibility take the win. In the end the blaze came through with the victory winning 11 - 8.
After 2 tournaments there is room for improvement but the team is off to a solid start.

Champlain - A story of 3 different games...

The weekend comes with more promise the the week before. Some nice cool weather but no rain in sight.
Starting in the first the Blaze defense was stellar with holding Linda's Cafe to 3 runs.  When it came time to hit the Blaze bats would not ignite.  Scoring just 2 runs for the game it went down as a diappointing loss in more ways then one. Loosing the game 9-2 and loosing Dack for the rest of the day.
Game 2 was a different story. Luckily in the batting department only. Scoring 27 runs and allowing only 11. The Blaze defense remained strong. I would like to thank Elizabeth for suiting up helping us out.  She came through with a couple nice catches in the outfield and a couple amazing hits that had some of the 16U girls asking for hitting lessons.
Game 3
Wow a 2 hour lay off and the Blaze's fire was out. The normal Blaze defense hadsome major holes. Dropped fly balls missed grounders you would have never guessed it was the Blaze on the field. The stand out Rapacz had a hard time doing it on her own. Mustering no errors and a couple good hits made the way for a frustrating last game. Loosing 27 - 3.
Here is to Sunday - and hopefully a resurgance to the Blaze as a dominant team.
